Russian blue cat

These animals gradually became the beloved pets of tsars and their families, the most famous example is the Russian blue cat Vasko, which was owned by the Russian tsar Nicholas I. At the latest around the year 1860, this breed of cats arrived to England thanks to the sailors, where it did not surpass the domestic and more robust British blue cat in popularity however, their population has grown and has gained today's appearance. The original form is not known, most likely the animals had yellow eyes instead of today's green and a denser coat.

This breed differs from all the others mainly by its double short coat, which is blue-gray, even and has a distinct silver shine. Medium blue-gray with silver shine is the preferred FIFe variant. Any color other than blue is not permitted by the FIFe specification. You would not be able to get to the cats skin even with the most painstaking combing. In case of soaking the top layer of the coat sucks all the water up, but the lower layer of the coat and white skin remain completely dry. These cats are rather small, usually even after castration females do not exceed the weight of 4 kg and males 5.5 kg. The limbs are slender and long, the tiny paws are oval in shape, the pointed ears just multiply their spell with short bristles, making this angelic lion look like a lynx, eyes should have a deep green color and a non-oriental appearance (however, in the US, Russian blue cats of oriental appearance spread successfully).
